Love in Bloom

Jacaranda tree, Guadalajara
Spring is well underway in Guadalajara, as evidenced by the abundundance of flowering things all over town. These shots are from our friend Larry, who has been kind enough to let us post them here for you to see.
We have one of the trees you see above right in front of our apartment building. It is amazingly pretty, but I feel very sorry for the maid that has to sweep up the hundreds of blooms that fall off daily all over the grass and sidewalk.

Beautiful!! We are a little bit behind you here in Texass, but I had three Bartlett Pear trees in bloom last week, and the neighbor's red bud is in full flower. We are starting to get the famous Texas Bluebonnets all over the place, in addition to some other wildflowers. Since so many of the trees here are either oaks of some kind or junipers, I haven't seen too many flowering ones. Hopefully when you get here and drive from Dallas to Georgetown, you will see the bluebonnets all along the highways. It is quite a sight!

Buh, why do maids sweep the sidewalks?
Doesn't wind and rain take care of blossoms like in other parts of the world? Isn't it pleasant (for me, now that I'm on prescription allergy meds from March-October) to trod on petals?
There are trees and bushes flowering in Southern Illinois, and the patio is covered with shedding crap from the maples. Fancy flowers started poking up during a warm stretch in January.
[crispy says: People are crazy about keeping things swept up here. This is strange, given the fact that Mexicans are reportedly notorious litterers. Maybe because they litter a lot, they've gotten used to having their maids sweep up? Anyway, you'd be shocked how much sweeping of sidewalks goes on here. And no, we don't tend to get much rain at all until June or so, then it rains pretty much every day until some time in October. Last but not least, some of the petals are slick like banana peels, so it's dangerous to walk on them when there's a bunch on the sidewalk.]
